Wednesday 19 February 2025, 1-2pm at Boardroom, Deakin Law School, Burwood Campus
Event Details:
Angela Paul, a Postdoctoral Research Associate at York Law School’s Administrative Fairness Lab will be visiting Deakin Burwood campus on Wednesday 19 February and she would like to have a lunch/discussion with scholars working in the area of automation, particularly the use of algorithms and policing. This will be of interest to those of us working on AI/automation and also those in criminal law/procedure.
To give you more information about Angela’s work: York Law School’s Administrative Fairness Lab is an internationally-recognised centre which examines various aspects of automation and AI. Some of you may know the work of Joe Tomlinson who is also from the Lab.
Angela is starting on a project which specifically looks at the implications of probabilistic (risk score) algorithms used in criminal justice in the UK. She would be interested in meeting to discuss the use of algorithms in criminal justice and hear about the Australian perspective on this topic.
This will be an informal discussion over lunch rather than a formal presentation so there is no paper to read in advance as such.
Kindly request to attend by emailing law-as-protection@deakin.edu.au to assist with catering arrangements. Please also highlight any special dietary requirements.
