Reflections on the book discussion on ‘Incarcerating First Nations Women: An Intersectional Approach’
On Monday we were delighted to host a book discussion, featuring Megan Beatrice’s new book, ‘Incarcerating First Nations Women: An Intersectional Approach’ at Deakin Downtown, with Deakin Law School.
The symposium featured an ‘in conversation’ interview between Professor Elena Marchetti (Griffith Law School) and Dr Megan Beatrice (Deakin Law School), who spoke about the historical and current colonial context in which the crisis of over-incarceration is located, the need for an intersectional reimagination of the crisis, and how legal theory can support this.
Shiri Krebs opened the event with an acknowledgment of country and highlighted the centrality of colonial legacies and practices to some of the acute failures of our criminal legal system today.
