The aim of this project is to undertake a detailed analysis of the likely application of statutory interpretation principles to various types of legal provisions recognising animal sentience in Australia, with a view to identifying the ‘real world’ consequences of such provisions.
The project also seeks to determine the extent to which such provisions are likely to adequately respond to public concern for animal welfare and advancements in scientific research.
